The Johnston County Visitors Bureau is the official destination marketing organization for all of Johnston County, and works closely with the tourism related businesses in Benson.  Whether serving on the Benson Tourism Marketing Committee, working with the Benson Museum of Local History or providing special events grants, our team is ready and eager to work with the Benson team.

Benson MuseumThe Benson Tourism Marketing Committee is funded by a local 2% Occupancy Tax collected by the hotels in the City of Benson. These funds are remitted to the Johnston County Tourism Authority and used to market the tourism assets of Benson and build local tourism infrastructure.

The current 2012-13 Tourism Marketing Budget for Benson is as follows:

    • I-95 Billboard Project  $6,000
    • Postage   $900
    • Our State Magazine, Mule Days   $1,050
    • Benson Museum Expenses  $500
    • Misc.   $250
    • Visitnc.com Event Listing  $300

        Total:   $9,000

The committee meets at least quarterly to work on projects like wayfinding, Benson Visitor Map, brochure distribution and marketing for events like Benson Mule Days, the Benson Sing, Saturday Strolls and many others.

The guidelines for submitting a coupon offer for the VisitBenson.org website are the following:

  • Provide Company Logo, minimum size 150 x 200 pixels
  • Provide coupon offer at least one week before offer goes live to the public.
  • Provide coupon text outlining the details, example:  $1.00 Off a Dinner Entree
  • Provide dates offer is valid, example:  Offer Valid December 1-31, 2012
  • Stipulate any restrictions on use of the coupon, example:  Only one coupon per person per visit.  Reproduced coupons will NOT be accepted.

The staff of the Johnston County Visitors Bureau will format your coupon offer and post on the website per your specifications or you may provide your own coupon.  Please format for the web in .jpeg format at 72 dpi, at least 500 pixels wide.  More than one coupon may run on the site at any given time if you so choose.  We recommend that coupons run for several months to gain the most exposure, but please submit what works best for your business strategies.

Reports will be provided to area businesses on the page hits to your coupon offer via Google Analytics reports.

The Events and Festival form may be provided at any time to the Johnston County Visitors Bureau to include Benson visitor related events on the Benson website, the Johnston County website and the NC Division of Tourism website, www.visitnc.com.

You now have the ability to enter your own events via the Everwondr Network on the Johnston County events website, www.johnstoncountyevents.com.  Please register to become a member of the site and instructions on entering events, artwork, and plan your visit materials are provided in .PDF formats.  Please call us with any questions.

Note: For effective marketing lead time for events, submit your information at least six months before the scheduled date (12 months would be better!).
